When I Survey the Wonderous Cross

Listening to the words of "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" on the radio today some very profound thoughts crossed my mind worth sharing. Observing first that Christ died on the cross for our sin, not his. He was entirely blameless he died to fulfill the fathers plan by which we were saved from eternal death.

Less obvious to some might be that the lyrics identify what God despises the most, "pride". Proverbs 16:18 "Pride goes before destruction. A haughty spirit before a fall" 2 Chronicles 32:26 " Then Hezekiah repented of the pride of his heart, as did the people of Jerusalem; therefore the Lord's wrath did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah"

Prideful behavior is about as destructive as turning off the Instrument Landing System or Navigational Equipment on an aircraft at a busy airport or on landing. Doom is imminent and most certain. I am sure we can all relate to a situation where someone's pride has led to problems.

Our vanity becomes our Achilles Heel. Even as we boast our good fortune of worldly possessions or our insight into sound financial planning, none of it can save you.

Pause, calm yourself, brace yourself in your chair, steady your heart and breathing. God loves us despite our sinful behavior. HE DOES NOT CONDONE IT. Matthew 18:3 "Truly I tell you, Unless change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

We are commanded to change, not continue living a sinful life, let the old lifestyles go by the wayside, they will bring nothing but doom and destruction for your generations and your soul. Live in his light, repentant of the brokenness of this world, Our hope is the light of the world, the prince of peace, the blood shed for you and I, the ransom paid, the sacrifice paid in full through his human death, conquering death, giving us life through him eternal.
